Twitter App - How to un-install updates (Windows PC)

I'm a long time user of the official Twitter app on the iPhone as I'd settled on Tweetie as my only iOS Twitter client a long time ago. Heck, I even bought Tweetie and Tweetie 2. I think it is the best Twitter client out there until they released version 3.0 last week.

Version 3.0 bought us the quick bar. WTF?
It's ugly, intrusive and utterly pointless as far as I'm concerned. I have no interest at all in local trends. I wanted to roll back to the previous version of the app ASAP, but everything I read on the Internet was geared around how to do this on a Macs using their time capsule thingy. I don't have a Mac, so here's how to do it on a PC.

NOTE: This method will only work (as far as installing a version of Twitter without the quick bar) if you haven't synced your iPhone with iTunes since you installed the 3.3 and 3.3.1 updates.

Also these instructions are for PC owners. Mac users can make use of the time capsule functionality to install older versions of the app. Use Google to find those instructions.

  1. Open up iTunes
  2. Click on apps (lefthand side menu). You can right click to check the version of the app that's are in your iTunes phone backup
  3. Right mouse click on the Twitter app and select "show in windows explorer" and then copy the Twitterx.x.x.ipa file to a safe location. It is this .ipa file that we are going to get iTunes to copy back onto your iPhone
  4. Delete the Twitter app from your iPhone and iTunes
  5. Drag and drop (or copy and paste) the Twitter3.2.2.ipa (or older) file into the app section of iTunes.
  6. Hit the iTunes sync button
  7. You should now have an older version of Twitter app on your phone
One more thing to note. You can't use the update all button any more. So get used to updating apps individually until Twitter fix the crappy quick bar.
